XRP Outspaces BNB to be the Third-Largest Cryptocurrency in the World

Key Takeaways:

  • The market capitalization of XRP shot up above that of BNB and this was a huge change in the leading hierarchy of the digital asset market.
  • The flip comes after a spell of institutional attention and successful introduction of spot XRP exchange-traded funds in the United States.
  • Market data confirms that XRP follows only Bitcoin and Ethereum, which is an indication of a new wave of investor attention to established utility tokens of cross-border payments.

This week saw a significant reorganization of the cryptocurrency market hierarchy with XRP taking the place of Binance Coin (BNB) as the largest market value. The Ripple-related token is ranked as the third-largest non-stablecoin digital asset based on market capitalization by this movement.

ETF Inflows and Institutional Momentum

The recent performance is mainly triggered by the changing regulatory environment in the United States. After resolving a years-old lawsuit with the Securities and Exchange Commission, a number of asset management companies introduced spot XRP ETFs in late 2025. The inflows to these investment vehicles have been consistent offering a clear and controlled entry point into the ecosystem by institutional capital.

According to reports in the industry, the newly formed ETFs have amassed more than 1.2 billion dollars in assets under management. This capital inflow has strengthened the price of XRP enabling it to sustain this wave unlike other key tokens who experienced volatility at the end of the year. Even though BNB continues to be a force in the decentralized finance and exchange industry, its expansion has been linear as opposed to the violent re-rating of XRP.

This change of ranking is not just a symbolic one. It is an indication of a shift in investor attitude towards assets that are highly defined by law. The ambiguity of XRP was a cap to its value over years. Having overcome those challenges to a great extent, the market today is valuing the asset as per its utility in the global remittance and banking market.

Growth of Cross-border Utility and Infrastructure

The further growth into the traditional finance industry by Ripple has also helped in the valuation of the token. Recently, the company sought a banking license to increase its financial service provision in the U.S. which according to the analysts would make Ripple a full-fledged digital bank. The objective of the strategy is to make XRP more embedded into the system of international payments.

Moreover, a two-asset ecosystem has been established by the launch of the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin. As the stablecoin takes care of the volatility-sharing elements of a transaction, XRP still remains the liquidity bridge currency. This architectural advancement has seen increased financial institutions experiment with the XRP Ledger to execute real time gross settlements.

According to data available on the XRP Ledger, the level of activity and the creation of wallets on-chain have continued to rise significantly. The current trend does not seem to be led by single-handedly retail interest, as it used to be in the past; rather, it seems to be the amalgamation of retail and professional accumulation. Whales, also known as large holders, have been stacking their investor bases over the last quarter of 2025 indicating long-term belief in the direction taken by the asset.

Performance in the Compared Market

The Location of BNB in the Existing Market

In the past Binance Coin has easily occupied the third or fourth position with the help of the huge volume of the Binance exchange and the utility of the BNB Chain. Nevertheless, the asset has not been spared of its challenges, among which are increased competition with other Layer-1 networks such as the Solana and the Layer-2 scaling solutions of Ethereum networks.

Nevertheless, even though BNB maintains a massive lead over the fifth-placed asset, the distance between the two has increased during the previous 48 hours. The traders have observed that the flippening has taken place in high volume trading and there is a possibility that the action has firm technical backing.

The Macro Cryptocurrency Environment

The macro-economic environment is a complex environment that the broader market is currently in. Bitcoin still holds the top position, although its dominance has diminished somewhat with the emergence of altcoins. The investors seek high utility projects that can provide returns regardless of the price movement of Bitcoin.

The popularity of XRP is part of a broader trend according to which old coins, i.e. ones that survived several bear markets, are becoming popular again. The market is also becoming more concerned about projects that have gone through the tight legal scrutiny and come out with a course of action at hand.

Infrastructure Developments in the Future

As the second stage of its evolution, XRP is likely to focus on the opportunities of decentralized finance (DeFi). The XRP Ledger developers have been making efforts to deploy smart contracts, which would enable the network to compete on a more level playing field with Ethereum and the BNB Chain in the NFT and automated market maker markets.

In case these technical upgrades are effectively made, the demand of XRP as a gas token and collateral may grow. This would provide an added value to its main use as a payment bridge. In the meantime, the market is concerned with the short-term consequences of the ETF victory and the resulting liquidity that will be granted to the position of the third-largest cryptocurrency.

Fed Makes First Rate Cut of the Year, Lowers Rates by 25 Bps

The post Fed Makes First Rate Cut of the Year, Lowers Rates by 25 Bps appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The Federal Reserve has made its first Fed rate cut this year following today’s FOMC meeting, lowering interest rates by 25 basis points (bps). This comes in line with expectations, while the crypto market awaits Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s speech for guidance on the committee’s stance moving forward. FOMC Makes First Fed Rate Cut This Year With 25 Bps Cut In a press release, the committee announced that it has decided to lower the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 bps from between 4.25% and 4.5% to 4% and 4.25%. This comes in line with expectations as market participants were pricing in a 25 bps cut, as against a 50 bps cut. This marks the first Fed rate cut this year, with the last cut before this coming last year in December. Notably, the Fed also made the first cut last year in September, although it was a 50 bps cut back then. All Fed officials voted in favor of a 25 bps cut except Stephen Miran, who dissented in favor of a 50 bps cut. This rate cut decision comes amid concerns that the labor market may be softening, with recent U.S. jobs data pointing to a weak labor market. The committee noted in the release that job gains have slowed, and that the unemployment rate has edged up but remains low. They added that inflation has moved up and remains somewhat elevated. Fed Chair Jerome Powell had also already signaled at the Jackson Hole Conference that they were likely to lower interest rates with the downside risk in the labor market rising. The committee reiterated this in the release that downside risks to employment have risen. Before the Fed rate cut decision, experts weighed in on whether the FOMC should make a 25 bps cut or…
