The joint effort will deliver 5,000 menstrual hygiene kits to disaster-affected communities in Aceh and Medan, alongside essential medicines and fresh food supplies. Distribution is scheduled to begin in early April 2026, targeting areas still grappling with the impact of recent disasters and prolonged recovery challenges.
Focus on Dignity and Women’s Health
Organizers say the initiative aims to address a critical but often overlooked need during humanitarian crises: women’s health and menstrual equity.
“This initiative is about responding to a crisis in a way that protects both life and dignity,” said Aurelly Syifalia Widihartanto, Co-Founder of Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih.
She stressed that women are often disproportionately affected during disasters, yet their basic health needs frequently receive limited attention. The Menstrual Equity Project was originally conceptualized by AMWA’s Global Health Lead Dr. Padmini Murthy and GCSRF founder Jing Zhao Cesarone.
The program has previously been implemented in The Bahamas and Suriname, as well as in satellite clinics affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Sumatra rollout adapts that model to Indonesia’s local context.
KuCoin’s CSR Role and On-the-Ground Support
KuCoin is supporting the procurement and shipment of the menstrual hygiene kits, represented by CSR Director and Global Human Resources Director Sylvie Dong.
“Corporate responsibility means showing up in practical ways when communities are affected by disaster,” Dong said, adding that the exchange will continue backing initiatives that address urgent, real-world needs.
On-the-ground distribution in Aceh and Medan is being led by Maha Medicare, which has been assisting flood-affected communities in Medan since December.
Government and Public Figure Backing
The initiative has secured support from regional and national leaders, including H. Teuku Badruddin Syah, Sultan of Aceh. National-level backing includes Agustina Hastarini, spouse of Indonesia’s Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and La Ode Ikrar Hastomi, representing the Ministry of Industry.
Several Indonesian public figures, including Baim Wong, Rianti Cartwright, Dame Aning, Nadya Shakira, Ririn Dwi Ariyanti, and Metta Permadi, have also joined the campaign to raise awareness around women’s health and dignity-centered disaster response.
The relief effort was formally introduced at a press dinner titled “A Matter of Dignity” held on February 6, 2026, in Jakarta, bringing together foundation leaders, medical experts, business executives, and media representatives.
